![]() Maybe a stupid example, but Maya said at least 4 times, to the reader, "Why would I ever turn down food?" but we only ever saw her appreciate it one time, and it was cookies and her appreciation was simply her eating a lot of cookies. I really don't know what the author was trying to do with the main character's personality. Without even getting into my problems with how certain aspects of Deaf culture were displayed, the characters were incredibly boring. ![]() ![]() So I was very excited to read this book, from the perspective of a deaf high schooler, and I perked up when I realized that the ASL would actually be written as ASL instead of just translated into English like in most the other books I've read with a deaf character.īut the book left me wanting, in so many ways. I'm almost done with my second semester of ASL, and I love and appreciate the language. ![]()
