![]() ![]() ![]() Chaplain Ortan Cassius, the Master of Sanctity of the Ultramarines Chapter, has fashioned his Crozius Arcanum in the form of a Tyranid head, in remembrance of Hive Fleet Behemoth's costly invasion of their homeworld of Macragge during the First Tyrannic War. It is normally shaped in the form of either a staff or a mace, topped by the double-headed Aquila of the Imperium or a winged skull that represents the Emperor's sacrifice for humanity.Ī few versions use iconography from the Chapter they belong to, such as the blacksmith's hammer-version used by some Chaplains from the Salamanders Chapter. This duality of purpose presents no philosophical conundrum for the Chaplains, as for them battle itself represents the most valuable form of worship of the Emperor of Mankind. A standard Space Marine Chaplain's Crozius Arcanum on the left and a variant used by the Wolf Priests of the Space Wolves Chapter on the rightĪ Crozius Arcanum is a mace or staff that is used as both a melee weapon and the primary badge of office of Space Marine Chaplains. ![]()

![]() ![]() His legendary run on X-Men with collaborator Chris Claremont stands as one of the most influential of all time. Excelsior!įor more than 40 years, John Byrne has been one of the most popular artists in comics. Hmmm, it’s a bit pricey, but then it is my birthday this week too. Indeed, if it wasn’t for Byrne and a certain black Spidey suit, I think I wouldn’t have bothered with Marvel much as a kid. While I was too late to the party for his and Chris Claremont’s classic run on The Uncanny X-Men, his FF was a huge part of my childhood and my first introduction to Marvel. I’d get in there quick if you want a copy and avoid disappointment. ![]() ![]() So, why stop now? It explains the too cute winks to the camera and lines of dialogue like, “If you’re a 5 in London, you’re a 10 in Bath.” Unfortunately for Netflix, #AustenTok has emphatically criticized the film for talking down to its audience and aping Fleabag’s signature fourth-wall breaks. TikTok has its own thriving Jane Austen subculture-the precise audience the creators of this film were likely attempting to appeal to. It’s that this film seemingly treats Austen fans with disdain while attempting to pander to them. It’s not the color-blind casting, abridged plot, or anachronisms that upset people. Why was this one so uniquely enraging to so many? I’ll tell you why. But Jane Austen adaptations take liberties all the time. It stars Dakota Johnson as a wine-guzzling, pining, winking Anne Elliott and was much-derided on the internet from the moment the first trailer dropped. ![]() I’m among those still upset about the new Persuasion adaptation on Netflix. With the recent news that there’s a Lost Boys TV show being developed by The CW and writer Rob Thomas ( Party Down, Veronica Mars), let’s hope that it’s as interesting, fun and horror-filled as the original. The film told the story of two brothers, Michael (Jason Patric) and Sam Emerson (Corey Haim), in the seaside town of Santa Carla and their encounter with a gang of vampires. The Lost Boys made vampires cool and paved the way for 'edgy' vampire stories in mainstream media today. The movie also spawned phrases such as ‘vamp out’ and quotable lines such as ‘you’re eating worms, Michael’, the latter has been parodied in popular culture many times over. Elmo’s Fire (1985), Falling Down (1993) and Flatliners (1990) were quite iconic among his work, but no movie morse so than 1987’s The Lost Boys, which has become a cult classic for 80s kids all over. Before Joel Schumacher ever made some embarrassing Batman films, he was actually a pretty decent director. ![]() ![]() ![]() Notes: The first song, 'We're Freezing Our Tails,' is in chapter nine, which is also where we learn that Slim reads Ben K. Unlike the storytelling structure in the previous two books, The Iron Jackal progressed a bit differently and it’s something I immensely appreciate. The Iron Jackal greatly built upon the foundations that have been well-established in the first half of the series.ĭespite having enjoyed the first half of the quartet, I was getting a bit scared that the fun and enjoyment of the series would start to dwindle in the third and penultimate installment of the series. ![]() ![]() Her relationship with her mother is loving but difficult. Thandi’s self-proclaimed status as a “strange in-betweener”-she has “light skin and foreign roots,” and feels neither fully black American nor fully African-is a defining preoccupation of her young adulthood. Thandi, like Clemmons, was raised in a wealthy, mostly white suburb of Philadelphia. The protagonist is Thandi, who, like Clemmons herself, is the daughter of a “coloured” South African mother and an African American father. It tells a story based loosely on the author’s own. The new novel that emerged, What We Lose, is a startling, poignant debut, released to no shortage of fanfare ( Vogue called it “the debut novel of the year”). “I just ended up keeping those pieces and stitching them together, and a fictional narrative arose.” The novel she had been working on no longer felt worth her while she’d been trying to use it, she said, to “avoid what was going on with my mom.” ![]() ![]() “The only time and energy I could muster resulted in that very short form,” she said recently.
